Case study

Putting G2 review data to work with Modiva

A look at how teams use Modiva to read G2 — products, categories and reviews across their stack, and giving AI agents safe, scoped, read-only access — without building and maintaining a custom integration.

This is a representative example of the Modiva + G2 workflow. Have a story to share? Tell us and we’ll feature it here.

The challenge

Teams that track their standing on G2 rarely want to live on the site. Getting that data where the work happens usually means:

  • Pulling G2 product, category and review data meant learning G2's v2 data API, its OpenID auth and pagination from scratch for every internal tool.
  • Review and rating data lived on G2, so competitive and reputation tracking meant someone checking the site by hand.
  • AI assistants had no scoped, read-only way to look at G2 products and reviews.

The approach with Modiva

  1. 1

One connection, not a custom OAuth client

The team authorizes G2 in Modiva once via OpenID Connect. Modiva stores only a scoped, encrypted token and refreshes it automatically — no credentials in code, no per-service OAuth client to maintain.

  2. 2

Products & reviews over a unified API

Instead of writing against G2's v2 data API directly, the team calls Modiva's typed tools for products, categories and reviews (survey responses). The same request shape works across every tool Modiva supports, so adding the next system is a connection, not a rewrite.

  3. 3

Review monitoring for AI agents via MCP

An MCP key exposes the same read-only tools to AI assistants. An agent can pull a product's latest reviews or scan a category for competitive positioning — with scopes the team controls and can revoke at any time.

  4. 4

    Reputation tracked, not checked

Scheduled reads pull new reviews and ratings so the team learns about a shift in sentiment from a summary rather than from stumbling onto it on the G2 site.

The outcome

  • G2 products, categories and reviews are read through the same tools as the rest of the stack, not a bespoke API client.
  • Competitive and reputation tracking runs on a schedule instead of manual site checks.
  • AI agents read G2 data through scoped, revocable, read-only access — never a raw token in a script.
